The Stevo at *61....

He was born in Hibbing, Minnesota and Raised in Fargo, North Dakota. A gifted athlete and unassuming kind of a guy. He never had a clue that one day there would come a time that other athletes would cheat in order to surpass the Holy Grail that was his.

*61..a number that changed the face and..well...sanctity, if you will, of baseball as we know it forever.

Back in the day, he wasn't supposed to be the guy that would surpass Babe Ruth as the man that would overtake Ruth in baseball's most hallowed record. Life decided differently and against all odds, he did just that on the last day of the season against Tracy Stallard of the Boston Red Sox.

Mickey Mantle was supposed to be the right man for that job and in the summer of 1961, he made a most gallant run (54) and injury stopped his chase...a glorious summer if there ever was one.

Maybe Roger Maris, doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame. On the surface, I might agree. However... Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGuire, etal., might beg to differ. They knew that Maris' record was the key to fame and fortune. No matter what it took..*61 was their target...and doing an illegal drug to do so was apparantly fine with the Commissioner (Bud Selig) and the owners...Lotsa fame and fortune in the long ball...

Maris changed baseball forever because he surpassed the most revered figure in Major League baseball history and he did it right. It was the assholes that elected to not play the game right that destroyed it...I salute you, Mr. Maris...Real fans know the deal....

And this guy is NOT in the Hall of Fame!??!!!?...Gimme a break!!

The Almighty Dorrah..

Photobucket Check out ...this article..The dude sellin' it sez that an "..Oriental.." wuz the one who made the damn thang...I guess when racism stops makin' money, entrepreneurs and the like might givvit a rest...Doubt it.

...Since I don't care, and racism, and as a matterfact, terrorism are here to stay, and you can make money on both (See Sharpton, Jackson, Bush, Cheney),..ain't no end in sight...

...Fukudome did not seem shocked.

"I knew I was coming to a different country, so I expected something like this,'' he said. ''Maybe not necessarily racial, but that anybody could take any context of my words and degrade me if they wanted to. But if I make a big deal out of it, it's not going to benefit me, so I'm not going to make a big deal of it."

Mark Kolbusz, who runs the souvenir stand that sold the shirt, said it was his top-selling shirt..

Fuk it...I thought it was funny..

YOU GO BRETT!!!...(just... GO!)

PhotobucketJust a cupla months after Brett Favre's sappy-cheesy funeral dirge that fans were barraged with, The Sporting News comes out with this report that he might be enticed to come back if Aaron Rodgers went down with an injury next season...

"..."I think of that, when I think of now being retired, I think I won't be in the quarterback/receiver meeting on Thursdays joking around and having fun and game plan and all that stuff together. It was a fun year. That was fun throwing the ball around like we did. There's no reason to think that won't happen again. Aaron has fallen into a great situation. And if that opportunity presented itself and they did call, it would be tempting. And I very well could be enticed to do it...."

...Now, da Stevo is well aware of how revered the gunslinger is as a folk hero and all that crapppp but, personally, I've had just about enuff of his "One Shining Moment" routines and would kinda prefer that he just go away and ride a tractor or sumpthin'..

To me, the best thing that could happen, if he came back, would be for him to throw 4 interceptions and get sacked on his assss 'bout 6 times in his next final game and get trounced 42-7 and go out on bottom....Heaven forbid, he won a Super Bowl in his last outing and we hafta suffer thru Jesus Christ comparisons and JFK's funeral dirge...Givvit a rest, fer crissake.

Pat Tillman didn't get as much attention as Favre did when he got killed over in Iraq fightin' a war...and he wuzza lot more than justa football player..

It's great to be King...

Photobucket...On the 40th anniversary of Martin Luther Kings' assassination in Memphis...Sen. John McCain issued an apology for not voting to make Kings' birthday a Federal Holiday back in 1983...

Da Stevo, if asked, would probably rate King as one of the most important people of our lifetime...a true American Hero...I always admire people that have the balls to stand up against the system..Especially people that do it right. McCain is politically correct for owning up to a wrong that is part of the pubilic record and and I applaud him for that..

However...

...Ifya didn't vote to make this great man's birthday a Federal Holiday when it was submitted to do so...How much vision can you have?

...BTW....Da Stevo was born on Jan. 15th...

In "Vogue"..?..I seriously doubt it..

Photobucket "NEW YORK (AP) - When Vogue announced its April cover starring LeBron James and Gisele Bundchen, the magazine noted with some fanfare that James was the first black man to grace its cover.

But the image is stirring up controversy, with some commentators decrying the photo as perpetuating racial stereotypes. James strikes what some see as a gorilla-like pose, baring his teeth, with one hand dribbling a ball and the other around Bundchen's tiny waist.

It's an image some have likened to "King Kong" and Fay Wray.

"It conjures up this idea of a dangerous black man," said Tamara Walker, 29, of Philadelphia...."
...FOXSports.com

...Maaannn...some people jus' need to get a life...Hell, Lawerence Fishbourne duz that too...so do countless rappers...and if I remember correctly, Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, Lee Van Cleef et al., conjured up images of dangerous white men..and even tho' he might notta been able to jump wortha shit..Woody Harrelson did his part in "Natural Born Killers".

...As far as the King Kong/Fay Wray lame-ass bullshit..at least Giselle looks like she's enjoyin' it as opposed to Ms. Wray bein' scared shitless..

Da Stevo thinks that racism is pretty much here to stay...There's always gonna be some dipshit somewhere that makes it an issue, if you will, even when it's not there...As long as controversy is good for bizness...some fucker will playda card..

Note: The fact that Vogue makes it a point to let us all know that LeBron is the "first black man" to grace its' cover pretty much backs me up on that...Not to mention that this is 2008 and if it tookya this long to do it...how fuckin' relevant a magazine can you be?

If there wasn't any racism...some asshole would create it..and create it...and create it...
